Joe Gonzales | Justice Minister

Joe is District Attorney for Bexar County, having first been elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. He has been an attorney for over 35 years and has dedicated his practice entirely to criminal law. He began his career as an assistant district attorney with both the Bexar County and Harris County District Attorney’s offices before entering private practice in 1998. Immediately before being elected district attorney, Joe was the owner of the Law offices of Joe D. Gonzales and Associates for over 22 years and was recognized as a “best lawyer in San Antonio” from 2009 to 2017.

Joe graduated with honors with a B.A. degree from St. Mary’s University and holds a JD degree from St. Mary’s School of law. He is a member of several professional and community service boards.

Joe is the 2024 recipient of the Pat Maloney, Sr. Public Service Award and is a frequent speaker to high school and college students.

Having been born and raised on the westside of San Antonio, Joe was raised by a single mother who instilled in him the importance of a good education.

Joe is married to the love of his life and his college sweetheart, Municpal Court Judge Yvonne M. Gomez. They are the proud parents of a daughter, Marisa. She is an honors graduate of New York University and is an aspiring actress currently living in New York City.

Joe has been a member of the Rey Feo Consejo Organization since 2020. He is honored to serve with Rey Feo 76 Fabian Castillo as his Justice Minister and looks forward to a busy and rewarding reign in the coming year.
